Over the last four decades, this family-run, service-oriented farm machinery dealership has relocated, expanded and honed its franchises to provide the very best products with the very best service, for customers throughout Essex, Kent, Sussex and Hampshire.
“We are a very service-focussed business and have built a reputation for delivering excellent customer service and support,” explains managing director Wes Crawford, who heads the business that was started by his father, Bob, in 1980. Bob still remains actively involved in the business, but leaves day-to-day operations in Wes’ capable hands.
Back then, Bob visited farms looking for items farmers would sell – and then went in search of buyers. In 1981, he rented premises from Keeble Brothers at Bancroft Road, Chelmsford, and took on his first two employees – technicians Dennis Polley and Roy Keyes. Later that year, Malcolm Baker took on a service and stores role and is still with the company, now as after sales director. In June 1981, Bob applied to a nearby dealership to become a sub dealer for International Harvester tractors but was declined.
Undeterred, he wrote to IH in London, and an informal chat led to bosses meeting Bob at home, where they agreed he could take on the brand for the Southend and Chelmsford area. It was a partnership that remained for 21 years.
