Kent dealer celebrates three years and depot expansion
Essex and Kent-based Agco dealer RW Crawford Agricultural Machinery Ltd has celebrated the opening of a state-of-the-art workshop, three years after its Charing, Kent depot first opened its doors.
The dealer has represented Massey Ferguson in Essex since the 1980s, later taking on Challenger and Fendt and expanding its operation over the border into Kent in 2011? Kent customers were looked after initially from its South Woodham Ferrers depot, but as the company’s reputation for excellent after-sales back-up spread across the county, demand increased as farmers and contractors looked to the company for their machinery requirements, and significant investment was made in a new depot near Ashford, which opened in 2013.
As more quality franchises were taken on and sales increased, the existing workshop facilities were becoming stretched and in late June customers were invited to join the dealer and supplier representatives to celebrate the opening of the new workshop, and three years of trading from the Charing branch.
Franchises represented from the branch include Fendt, Valtra (taken on in 2015), Challenger, TopCon, Caterpillar, Amazone, Spearhead, Mzuri, HM Trailers, Can-Am and Isuzu and specialists were on-hand during the day from all the suppliers to discuss products with new and existing customers.
RW Crawford Kent sales manager Carl Goff was delighted with the open day. “We had a strong attendance from customers, helped by wet weather which meant most field activities couldn’t take place. Considering the current tough times in the agricultural industry our sales team gathered healthy leads for new business, which is very positive. It takes a lot of time and effort to organise such a large event but with the support we had from new and existing customers, and from suppliers, it was great seeing everyone enjoying the day and staying to socialise well into the evening.”
A brand new franchise was introduced to customers at the open day. “Our existing customers are always on the lookout for hard-wearing All Terrain Vehicles and have been asking if we stock the Can-Am off-road range for some time. Responding to the demand, we researched build quality and specification before signing on the dotted line. We will offer the range and provide full service and parts back-up in Essex and Kent. These vehicles will complement the other brands we represent, and are suitable for the variety of terrain and jobs our clients undertake on a regular basis.”
Customers attended from across RW Crawford’s trading area, as well as from outside. Mark Hague of BG, OM and MW Hagues agricultural contractors, based in Hailsham, East Sussex farms approximately 400ha (1,000 acres) which is a mix of owned and contract-farmed land and has a herd of Continental store cattle for finishing.
Mark has dealt with RW Crawford for three years, but made his first machinery purchase in 2015, the order including a Fendt 718, a Fendt 724 and a Krone F320CV mower. “The reason we deal with Crawfords is first- because of the brands offered; the Fendt tractors supply the key features we need we need from a tractor and the build quality of the Krone mowers is second to none.
“Crawford’s sales, maintenance and parts departments always provide friendly, reliable and professional service and are always happy to help. Each product we have purchased from the dealer has come with an excellent installation session with the dealer demonstrator, Ben Marsh, who is always happy to answer any questions.”
